This is an attractive - and I deem only minimally used- and/or worn - example of an Iron Cross 2nd class (or: 'Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse') being - I deem - an example that was produced by the maker ie. 'Hersteller' named: 'Berg & Nolte' and that comes period-mounted as a so-called: 'Einzelspange' (or: detachable, single-pieced medal-bar) and that comes in an overall very nice- (albeit surely issued- and I deem only minimally worn-), condition. The cross was most certainly issued and/or worn as such and was most certainly never cleaned nor polished. It has a beautiful age-patina and black-coloured- and somewhat matted-like 'core' (which shows no real paint-damage whatsoever and which retains a nicely ie. almost fully preserved, matted black-coloured 'core' as can be seen on the pictures). I could not check if this is a maker-marked specimen but I deem it an evident specimen that was produced by the desirable maker ie. 'Hersteller' named: 'Berg & Nolte' (ie. 'B&N') as was based in the town of Lüdenscheid (ie. 'Hersteller 40'). The cross just shows some minimal dirt and/or dust acquired over the years: the (bright-red-coloured) ribbon shows some equal minor usage and/or staining. The cross has great detail and was never polished: it also retains some of its so-called: 'hochpolierte Kanten' (or polished sides) as can be seen on the pictures. The cross ie. 'Spange' has truly very nice detail and is neatly 'backed' with a piece of darker-blue-coloured wool as is more often encountered and comes mounted on its (still functional and unusually vertically-mounted) pin- ie. pin/catch set-up. Hard to find a more attractive IC 2nd class as was period-mounted as an: 'Einzelspange'!
