This is a very interesting - and actually scarcely encountered! - 8-pieced WH (Heeres) 'Gebirgsjäger'-related insignia- and medal-grouping that belonged to a soldier (ie. NCO or: 'Unteroffizier') who served within the: 'Gebirgs-Pionier-Bataillon 54' and that comes mounted onto a period-compiled 'card' as recently found. The grouping respectively comprises of a (rarely seen!) pair of WH (Heeres), early- (ie. pre-war-) period, so-called: 'M36-/M40'-pattern- (pointed-styled-) 'cyphered'- and/or per regulation non-piped NCO-type shoulderstraps as was intended for - and worn by! - an: 'Unteroffizier des 'Gebirgs-Pionier-Bataillon 54' (or: junior-sergeant who served within the army mountain-troops/engineers battalion, numbered: '54'). These shoulderstraps - which measure approximately 11,9 cms. sized in length - have the 'standard-type'- and/or darker-green-coloured, smooth-woolen-based 'upperdecks' and have (of course) no piping attached. They show the neat (machine-embroidered by means of so-called: 'Kurbelstickerei'-) so-called: '5'- and '4'-cyphers ie. numerals. Both 'cyphers' are executed in the black- (ie. 'schwarzer'-) coloured wool ie. linnen and are additionally piped in white as to be expected (as can be seen on the pictures). The straps - which come without tongues and came clearly 'cut-off a tunic' - have the 'standard-pattern', silver-coloured NCO-braid attached and do show moderate usage and/or wear. Next to this, the set comprises of a (worn and tunic-removed) 'Edelweiss'-arm-patch (in 'BeVo'-woven style) and a neat black- (ie. white-piped) 'Pioniere'-related: 'Signal-Blitz'. Furthermore are there two 'ribbon-bars' (ie. 'Band-/Feldspangen') of which one is intended for a: 'WH-Dienstauszeichnung 4. Stufe' (as was intended for 4 years of loyal-service). There is also a (nicely preserved) 'Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse' (by a by me unidentified maker) that comes mounted onto an incorrect (but period-done!) piece of ribbon (ie. 'Bandabschnitt'): I could not determine if it deals with a maker-marked example: the ring is firmly obscured by the ribbon. The IC has a nicely preserved black-coloured (ie. 'satin'-like) 'inner-core' that is void of any damage. Lastly does the set include a: 'Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. März 1938' as was awarded to all members of the armed forces that participated in the German occupation of Austria that started on: '1. März 1938'. This example comes mounted onto its period ribbon and is just a bit tarnished by age (as can be seen on the pictures). All eight pieces were (firmly!) glued onto a carton-based 'card' (sized: 24 x 18 cms.) that was most certainly once framed. Simply a very attractive, 8-pieced WH (Heeres) 'Gebirgsjäger'-related insignia- and/or award-grouping that belonged to an: 'Unteroffizier') who served within the: 'Gebirgs-Pionier-Bataillon 54'!
